Did you know that there are actually four (4!) ways to become a Certified Presenter in Alpha Phi Omega (you may know this as Basic Skills, Presentation/Facilitation)? You can petition for an exemption, take the online and in-person training course, ask for an in-person review, or submit a video for review. Details on each option are available from the APO Impact wiki,http://apoimpactproject.wikispaces.com/Presenter+Certification+methods.
The biggest hurdle to getting trained presenters is getting the volunteers to travel to the limited number of in-person opportunities for the course training. With the video review process, this obstacle can be removed. Here's how it works.
The volunteer should contact the Training Coordinator via email: training.coordinator@apo.org to coordinate the video delivery. The participant will then make a videotape or YouTube post showing off their presentation and/or facilitation skills, which will be assessed based on specific guidelines. If the participant is seeking certification in facilitation skills, they should make sure that the video demonstrates a knowledge of the What, So what, Now what approach, and that the presentation shows the participant facilitating the group toward a specific lens.
The full list of evaluation criteria are available on the APO Impact wiki:http://apoimpactproject.wikispaces.com/Evaluation+System
It is still recommended that the participant take part in the online portion of the certification training, especially if they're confused about What, So what, Now what, or if they don't know what is meant by "lens". There happens to be one coming up, on Saturday, July 9, from 12 PM - 2 PM Eastern time (register here:https://student.gototraining.com/33z5z/rt/1973769939917429248). Taking the online training also allows the participant to take the practical portion of the training at any time it is offered in the future; the online training has no expiration date.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact your area Training Coordinator or myself,Training Coordinator. Until then, here's hoping this makes it easier for you to recruit and train qualified presenters!
